About The PEACE Project
The PEACE Project is reinventing the high school experience to better meet the needs of high school students and our quickly-changing society. It is a program in which people of
all ages serve and learn within a student-centered community, embarking on personal and academic journeys through projects, individual learning goals, and fieldwork. Relating their
academic lessons to fieldwork, students maximize their learning experiences as they solve real problems and improve the lives of others.
Schedule and Logistics
- Thursday afternoons for 30 weeks
- 4 hours from approximately 1-5pm
- Unpaid
Responsibilities of the Mentor
- Have weekly phone or e-mail contact with the PEACE Project staff
- Plan a work plan with the Fieldwork Coordinator and the student
- Schedule some time to help orient your student in navigating the workplace
- Work with the Fieldwork Coordinator to plan meaningful projects for your student
- Attend student’s final presentation (exhibition) about their fieldwork
Responsibilities of Student
- Contribute real work to fieldwork site
- Create and follow through on project at site that will build capacity in the host agency
- Meet regularly with mentor for feedback
- Reflect on work in weekly journal
- Call mentor if late or absent
Set-Up and Flow of Internship
- Student looks for and interviews at fieldwork site
- Mentor agrees to take on student and meets with fieldwork coordinator to set up expectations
- Student begins fieldwork and orients themselves with workplace
- After student is comfortable and confident at site they will propose a concrete and meaningful project that will be beneficial to their site and their education.
- Student continues to work on projects and assignments that connect their academics to their experiences in the real world.
